It must be what should be called one late "Fall cleaning": right after
yesterday's Qsynth release, and before going into full-speed season
compromises, I'll just let it all go as is
That's it, the
world-famous Qt GUI front-end to the incomparable JACK Audio Connection
Kit is here and now, shouting for a general heads-up. Sort of
+ New wizard, or should I say _now_ there's a wizard with a "recent project list" ;
the max number of recent project isn't yet added to the settings window but you can set it in ~/.wired/wired.conf : in the Recent group (created at first launch) "max_recent=". Defaults to 20.
+ Saving now works for the BeatBox and the Wired Sampler (rest of plugins coming soon)
+ Midi files can now be loaded on AMD64 (and hopefully on all 64bits platforms).
+ Saving of midi pattern created with a midi keyboard (and the wired sampler) to a .mid file ; though it may not be useful anywhere else than in wired.
Also, when changing something in the settings, all plugins are removed with no warning... Sorry about that : this way, the restart of audio doesn't crash wired anymore when there are plugins in the rack panel.
This may change when the plugin API is rethought... *But*, midi devices are saved so now you can use a midi keyboard with an existing wired session
Yes, it's about time. Much as the long due FluidSynth 1.0.8 release,
really "Its about funky time!". Time also for season greetings and some
gift exchange. Don't ask for a second best, here you have the finest
pair of socks for the holiday
The Rosegarden team are giddy with probably short-lived delight at the release
of version 1.6.0 of Rosegarden, an audio and MIDI sequencer and musical
notation editor for Linux.

For mobile work, your choices have traditionally come down to one of two choices: either lug your laptop and audio interface, or get dedicated recording hardware with far fewer capabilities. We’ve been following the evolution of the Linux-powered Trinity mobile recorder for over a year now because we’re interested in what could happen between those two extremes.

Ready to make music on those long nights after the clocks change up north? Ready to make music in the bright summer evenings down south? Ardour 2.1 squeaks out in time for both hemispheres to enjoy it. A few brand new features, including native (X11-free) OS X support, and a heap of important bug fixes, are there to make the upgrade worth your time. Source code is available as usual. A DMG for the X11 OS X version will follow shortly and there will also be a Tiger/Intel-only OS X native package in the next day or three.

Free software for the media?
To answer these (and many more) questions dedicated to software for the AudioVisual industry.
Free Open Source Software (FOSS) is popular in the IT world, but how good is it for AV professionals? Can you really use Open Source software to produce and distribute programmes? What about the quality, costs and training? How does it relate to closed alternatives? What are the pros and cons and how should you decide on its use in your organisation?
